Can your program take oracle input and pass to the script

Postby Betty on Fri May 02, 2014 10:26 am

Hi,
We need to fill a web page from our database files.
Can your program take database input(oracle) and pass it to the script?
Is your program only for windows workstation or can it be integrated into an asp classic script that also runs over the web?

Hello,
Yes you can use ODBC WinTask functions for reading Oracle database records, and then use their field contents to populate a Web form or a Windows form. DbGetFieldString and DbGetFieldNumeric are the 2 functions for reading fields. And you need to set up the ODBC connection for the Oracle database.

No a Wintask script cannot be an asp, it needs to be on the workstation.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Some other questions:
1.) is the wintask script file a simple text file?
2.) Does wintask run batch files? Does it search a directory for script files waiting to be run?
3.) Could I run wintask on the console of my win2003 web server and start it up from a scheduled timed event (at end of day or every hour?)

Hello,
Yes a script (SRC file) is a text file. However it's easier to edit it using WinTask Editor as you will have access to online help/wizards/....
When you have to execute a SRC file, you need first to compile it and it becomes a .ROB file (which cannot be edited).

Wintask can run a batch file, you invoke the Shell command in your script. The Shell executes .bat, .exe, .com

You can schedule a script using WinTask Scheduler under Windows 2003 Server.
